Nikkei 225 (JPN225)

What time is the Nikkei 225 (JPN225) suitable to trade in Malaysia?

The platform being open doesn’t mean you should enter. Being able to trade isn’t the same as it being suitable to trade.

Plenty of people open their trading platform after work, see that every index can be bought and sold, and assume it makes no difference when they enter.

It does.

“Able to trade” vs “suitable to trade”: the difference

Able to trade

The platform lets you place an order.

Suitable to trade

The market’s volatility is steady.

We only look for opportunities when volatility is steady. When it isn’t, we’d rather miss.

Compared with the US and German indices

IndexSuitable windows (Malaysia time)
Nikkei 225 (JPN225)Morning, afternoon, night
German index (GER40)Afternoon, night
US indices (NAS100, US30)Night

This table isn’t saying which index makes more money. It only shows which one fits your hours better.

If you work during the day and want an early night, the suitable window for US indices may not fit into your day.

Fitting the Nikkei around a day job

You don’t need all three windows. One a day is enough.

01

Before work

After 7:30 AM, before you leave home

02

Afternoon

If your working hours are flexible

03

After work

8:00 to 10:00 PM, after dinner

Checking the market and looking for a setup takes about 3 minutes a day. Learning and practice need their own fixed time.

The right time is only the first condition

Timing is just the start. Before you enter, look at three things:

Candles, Direction, Momentum.

Aligned, you enter. Not aligned, you wait.

Frequently asked questions

What time is the Nikkei suitable to trade in Malaysia?

Currently 7:30–11:00 AM, 3:00–5:00 PM and 8:00–10:00 PM (Malaysia time).

Do these times change?

Yes. The windows shift with daylight saving time, even though Malaysia and Japan don’t observe it themselves.

Can’t US indices be traded during the day too?

They can be traded, but that doesn’t make it suitable. We look at whether volatility is steady, and for US indices the suitable window is at night.

Can I trade the Nikkei on weekends?

No. The index isn’t open for trading on Saturday or Sunday.

I’m only free at night. Does the Nikkei suit me?

Yes. 8:00 to 10:00 PM is one of the Nikkei’s suitable windows.

Waiting is a position too.
